Web3 Gaming Firm Immutable Named As LinkedIn’s Top Aussie Startup

LinkedIn has compiled a list of its 7th annual LinkedIn Top Startups, featuring 20 young Australian companies that are growing fast and gaining attention.

The past year has been challenging for companies across sectors, marked by continued inflation, widespread layoffs at well-known Aussie startups and tightened capital. And with significant drops in venture capital funding, startups have not been immune — investment in Australian startups over the first six months of this year fell to US$1.11 billion, compared with US$3.64 billion over the same period in 2022, according to KPMG.

However, times of uncertainty can push companies to adapt and innovate — and lead to new opportunities for emerging industries. Climate tech and artificial intelligence startups are defying the capital slump, while local health and biotech startups have seen some of the biggest raises in 2023.

Speaking on the list, Cayla Dengate, career expert at LinkedIn Australia, said, “Today LinkedIn has released our seventh annual Top Startups list, which calls out the top 20 local startups in Australia. This list is developed from a number of key metrics, including employee growth, jobseeker interest, member engagement within the company and its employees and how well these startups pulled talent from our flagship LinkedIn Top Companies list.

“Our latest list has shown that despite a turbulent market, Aussie startups are maintaining high levels of resilience, and it’s great to see so many new entrants in 2023. This shows we have a robust local startup ecosystem that supports growth and innovation.

“For the second year in a row, Immutable has come in first place, showing the continued strength of the local business and its ongoing success. More broadly, we are seeing consistent growth across various industries, with strong representation on the list from climate technology, financial services, health/biotech and advertising businesses. It’s great to see that startups focused on sustainability and innovation are featured prominently on this year’s top startups list.”
